The roots of the company go back a long way, firmly based on two strategic factors: passion for research and courage to take risks. These are the merits of Professor Luigi Rovati MD, who in 1961 decided to leave his academic career in Pharmacology and create a small laboratory of independent research, Rotta Research Laboratorium.
Since then, a long road has been travelled. Thanks to the constant commitment to research and to the strategies pursued in over 50 years of activity, the Company evolved to eventually become the Rottapharm|Madaus group, a leading multinational pharmaceutical company with Italian roots
- operating in over 85 countries worldwide
- employing over 2000 people
- marketing a considerable number of leading brands discovered and developed internally, including DONA, the original glucosamine sulfate currently used by millions of osteoarthritis patients worldwide.
With the spin-off from Rottapharm|Madaus in 2014, the R&D group that had originated the company and that now has many years of experience in drug research began a new adventure as Rottapharm Biotech.
